A despatch from Galveston, Texas, aunouueos the death of General Braxton Bragg. He dropped dead yesterday morning, while crossing Twelfth street, in that city, in front of the Post Office. He was sixty-one years of age. His body lies in state at Artilley Hall, and will be taken to Mobile if arrangements ran be made with the New Orleans steamers for its conveyance.

Gen. Bragg was in his usual health up to the moment of the attack. The cause of his death was syncope produced by organic disease of the heart Gen. Bra. wns born in Warren county, North Carolina, in 1815.

The lawless condition of affairs in Louisiana is not the result of the heathenism of its own people, or because a large nuijority of them ro not law- abiding and good citizens. It is the result of Kcllogg's mismanageinent.de-deception and treachery. There is no government in Louisiana. Outside of this city, the situation is one of ab solute anarchy, so far a the State Gov- ernment is concerned. It is powerless to puuish any violator of the law.

Iu Ihe locution where human life is safe, aud the rights of projierty are respae-ted, the people are indebted to the moral and social restraints of society, and not to the Government as malad-ministered by Kellogg's followers. iu the Cincinnati Commericnl. A man named Nutter was bitten by a rattlesnake a few days ago in Shecrwood Valley while out fishing. The snake was crawling iu its hole, and Nutter's companion suggested what sport jt would be to tie a fish line to the reptile's tail and crag it home. Taken with the fancy, Nutter undertook the tying job. The snake instantly turned and bit one of his fingers.

First the pair killed the snake, and then started for home to get hisky. On the way the wounded man suAered great pain, and his whole arm was fearfully swolen. At last adcouuts he was getting better.
