Cotton, of Alum Springs, Boyle county, and a most estimable lady. She was a kind neighbor, a loving mother and a devoted wife. 8ho leaves a husband aud a littlo son about tl ye years old. After services at her home hero by Rev. J.

Wado Wyatt, living in tho eastern part of tho county, was arrested Monday, charged with murder, and at examining trial Wednesday was turned loose. A woman living nt his house had given birth to twins (illegitimate) and the proof showed that tho birth was premature. Tho family, iu order to shield the woman from the gofsips, had tried to keep tho matter a secret, but it having leaked out and tho children having been buried privately, heuco the arrest. Melville Phelps, a prominent citizen of the county, died al his homo near Bush's Store, Tuesday, April 11, of con sumption. Mr.

Phelps, who was known all over tho county as "Dock," was 511 years old, was a prominent republican, having hoen elected one term as jailer of tho county. Ho was a member of the Baptist church and was a Mason, aa well Ai having engaged in the distilling business for many years. next Monday. Messrs. W.

C. Allen, A. Lusk. Town Attorney W. Goodloo on Wednesday morning brought a suit in the circuit court enjoining the hoard gf council of thu town of Danville from swearing in Mr.

C. C. Fox as town attorney on the 15th nnd enjoining Mr. Fox from being sworn in on that or any other day. Mr.

Goodloe charges that the board of council had no right to hold an election on the first Tuesday iu April (when Mr. Fox claims ho was elected and that if the council did have such right, the. election was not held iu the mode aud manner prescribed by law. Ho charges further that nt thu time of Mr. Fox' alleged election, tho B.iid Fox was holding the office of master commissioner of tho Boyle circuit court, and that under the constitution of Kentucky now iu force he can not nt the sumo time bold the olllco of town attorney.

Mention is mado elsewhere of two gentlemen having returned from a iish ing tour to Green Hiver. Some time af ter their return, one of them carried to Kd. Flaig to have repaired a split bamboo fishing rod, which be stated had beeu broken in an attempt to pull out a very largn fish, a bass. Tho other gentlemen is reported to have stid that tho fish which broke tho rod a pike, or pickerel. Now in view of this alleged discrepency in tho proof, Lawyer Graham Price, president of tho Truthful Fishermen's Association, (limited) has ordered the deposition of Dr.

Tom Bo-hon, of Hustonvillo. who was one of tho party, to bo taken, in order to ascertain the exact cause of tho breaking. This course was tlna'ly determined on he of the rumor that au expert had said that if called upon must conscientiously express the opinion that the roil was broken by a wagon wheel running over it. He v. Terry, of tho Bible College, Lexington, preached two very able discourses at the Christian church Sunday. Ho is graduate this year and valedic torian of his class. Mr. John W.

McCarty and family, of Jellico, have been hero for several days. Mrs. McCarty is Bister of Mre. Moore. Miss Howena Stanflll spent last Sunday with Miss Lucy Mahan, at Pleasant View.

Mr. G. A. Denham is going to build a three room addition to his dwelling. Town Marshal W.

H. Boss was in Cincinnati last week. Mrs. M. A.

Moore, who waa reported aa very sick in our last, died Tuesday April 11. at about 9 o'clock i. m. She bad suffered intensely for nearly two weeks before death camo to her relfef. Mrs Moore was a danghter of Mr.

Wm. Davis, an old and respected citizen of our county, and her husband has been sheriff two terms and h'dd various other positions of honor aud trust. She was in her 41st year and leaves seven children to mourn her loes, the youngest a babe of three weeks. She was buried Wednesday afternoon at the Brier Creek grave-yard, about two miles from town. On Inst Tuesday evening the Misses O'Mnra were "at home" to their friends and about IIO of them gathered in their elegant double parlors to celebrate the occasion.

After all the guests had arrived a card was presented to ench one, with a part of aomo familiar quotation on it; then tho young gentleman was to find thu lady who had the remainder of his quotation, which of courso gave every one splendid opportunity to get acquainted. After spending omo time in conversation, tho gueMs were conducted to tho where they found the table spread and covered with refreshments, consisting of ice cream, LANCASTER, GARRARD COUNTY. R. Tercy and Mr. Wm. II. Wherritt attended the meeting of tho Presbytery at Danville this week.

Tho union services will be held nt tho Methodist church Sunday night and will be conducted by Rev. Taylor, of Danville. Much interest is being manifested in tho protracted meeting at tho Methodist chu'ch. Services are held daily at .1 and 7.30 i. Tho disagreeable, rainy weather has greatly delayed the work on the new buildings of Messrs.

Owsley A Shanks and Batson West. The recent severe wind storms have blown a panel out of the iron fence on the top of the court-house cupola and bent tho weather vane down. Mr. Bud James, of Harrodsburg, was in town Tuesday on business. Mr.

Clyde Herring, of Louisville, is visiting rela tives here. Misses Kate Burdett and Maud Robinson are visiting in Danville. Mr. Brown Cogar has returned from Harrodsburg. Mrs.

Borders, of Stanford, is vistiting her sister, Mrs. 0. C. Stormes. Mr.

C. C. Stormes has been confined to his room several days by illness. At this writing ho is somownat improved. Cabell Denny has gone to Washington City to visit relatives.

MATRIMONIAL MATTERS. Miss Georgie Webster, of Chicago, is the latest goose of a wealthy and prominent family to give up her luxurious surroundings and marry a coachman. Mrs. Benjamin Queen has obtained a divorce from her GO year-old husbaud nt Columbus, because he kissed the hired girl. At this rate, husbands will soon have no rights that the courts will respect The wealthy Mrs.
